J'aime Nice!

It has been a long time since my last entry. Now I must play catch up! Nice, France has been so wonderful and very time consuming! I have been having loads of fun. I expected it to be so much different here than the U.S., but it is not. Don't get me wrong, there are quite a few differences here that I had to adjust to (walking ALOT because the buses don't run at night/weekends, being quiet when I usually would not, the HEAT,  hills, etc.),  but overall once you get used to it, things are pretty much the same as in any tourist town.  The thing that amazes me the most is the language barrier. I am having quite a difficult time understanding people and making others get what I'm saying. and I have been here for two and a half weeks! But I will continue to press and study because I really want my french to improve.

So...lets go backwards toward my arrival in Nice.  I will share some of the highlights of my time here.

Samedi 16 Juillet, 2011

Today we visited the village of Saint Paul de Vence and le Musée de la Fondation Maeght located about 30 miles west of Nice. The museum was founded in 1964 by Aime and Marguerite Maeght who wanted to give people modern and contemporary art in all its forms.  The museum has over 500 paintings, sculptures and  other works by 20th century artist such as Chagall, Miro, Caulder, Leger, and Giacometti, just to name a few.

When we got off bus we had to climb a steep hill to get to the museum. This open air museum featured modern art, from outside the entryway and throughout three floors inside.  I liked that you could look from the windows and see the art outside.  The featured pieces were bizarre to me.  I was not able to figure out what alot of them meant but they were still very beautiful and interesting to look at.

I chose two paintings as favorite in this museum the first for it vivid colors and various depictions of life and the other was a very simple pencil scketching of a man's hand caressing a woman's face.

After we left the museum we ate at a quaint restaurant under a covered terrasse where we where serenaded my a man playing an accordian.  C'etait magnifique! After lunch we ascended the stoned walkways of the hills of St. Paul and perused little shops for everything you could imagine! The vendors there were so nice and the views between the walkways and atop the hill were absolutely breath taking....another day enjoying the beauty of this southern France landscape.

Final Project

Salut, Je m'appelle Tarita Holloway. )
